Selecting a mens winter coat is a serious investment and you need to consider factors like warmth, quality and most importantly the budget. These coats can sometimes get very costly and hence it is necessary to be careful especially when funds are in short supply. There are no perfect set of rules in selecting a good mens overcoat. Considering some small details may minimise the mistakes that could lead to costly errors. You will just need to be clear understanding of your taste and the budget you are willing to spend on the item and of course the quality of the product.

Overcoats are long faux fur coats that are worn as outer garments over the suits or casuals. They are mainly used in winter season to protect the body against cold or rain. Thus they are usually made from heavy fabrics like wool and fur coat. As the main function of the garment is warmth, fabric is the most important aspect you will need to consider while selecting the overcoat. If protection against rain is your priority waterproof, breathable coats in high-vis colors must be your choice. Though they do not score much in the area of aesthetics they serve their purpose well when posed against rain.

But warmth and insulation is the reason that you are purchasing the coat then there are numerous fashion choices to choose from. The best fabrics that provide good insulation are wool and cashmere. Woollen overcoats are the most common type that are widely available in markets. They have good durability and can be paired with almost any outfit. They also have reasonable prices and not something to go for if you are looking for something special.

Cashmere fur coat is a refined version of wool and are more sophisticated than the woollen coats. They are comparatively warmer and softer than wool but the price range also increases with the added benefits. These cashmere coats and jackets are considered a luxury item and were seen as a status symbol of elites and wealthy people in early days. These cashmere coats are soft and sumptuous and can pair well with any type of outfit especially the formal wears.
The major problem with cashmere fabrics is that they do not wear well with time. They are unbelievably soft and thus easily wear down at most used spots like elbows and cuffs. These are as aforementioned luxury items and it is better to buy one, only if you already have a range of hard wearing jackets in your wardrobe.

Therefore selecting the fabric carefully is the only choice. It is hard to tell the quality of the cashmere fabric. However cheap cashmere has a mix in fibre lengths which causes pillings. Therefore it is better to avoid pilled cashmere. Another thing to note is the maintenance. Cashmere coat is obviously not fit for daily wear and best suited for special events. Make sure to dry clean it properly and dust it regularly and you are all set.
